The American-born artist Bruce Nauman has worked with a range of media, including performance, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, photography, and video. His 1985 piece titled Having Fun/Good Life, Symptoms, found in Carnegie Museum of Art’s Scaife Galleries, employs blinking neon tubing bent into words that spiral around each other. The right spiral proclaims: “I Live the Good Life. I’m Having Fun. You Live the Good Life. You’re Having Fun. We Live the Good Life. We’re Having Fun. This Is the Good Life. This Is Fun.” The left one counters: “Fever and Chills. Dryness and Sweating. North and South. East and West. Over and Under. Front and Back. Up and Down. In and Out.”
