Explore Envisioning a Just Pittsburgh’s 2026 theme, Home, through four interactive, artist-led workshops. Learn more about Envisioning a Just Pittsburgh, connect with fellow community members, and create artwork inspired by this year’s theme for the Call for Art. These workshops are open to everyone—no art experience necessary!
Please note that all four workshops will be offered simultaneously. When you arrive, check in at the registration table to choose the workshop you’d like to attend first.
The event is free, but registration is required.

Collective Healing Workshops: we move; therefore, we are
we move; therefore, we are, is a collective stitching, drawing, mark-making, and collage workshop exploring movement, belonging, and home as something we carry, lose, and rebuild over time. Participants will create layered collaborative works that are passed between hands, transformed by others, and rooted in shared reflection, listening, and connection.
Maritza Mosquera
Mi Casa es Tu Casa is a silkscreen printing, collage, and drawing project that refers to an old Latinx saying that welcomes others fully into each other’s homes. Participants will be guided to create a collage-print with elements from their home: food, people, toys, and furniture. Conversations will be instigated while they notice the similarities of others’ works near them.

Caregiving Creative: Unlearning the Artist is an interactive, all-ages workshop that explores how making art at home requires artists to adapt to interruptions, caregiving responsibilities, and shared spaces, reframing these moments not as disruptions but as part of the creative process itself. Grounded in Disability Arts, Justice, and Anthropology of Motherhood frameworks, participants engage in collaborative “relational making” activities that encourage flexibility, care, and collective creativity over individual control.

Excavating the Family Tree is an art and story journaling workshop in which participants will be guided in making their own unique family tree collage art piece to take home. This workshop will conclude with an optional story sharing circle.

Envisioning a Just Pittsburgh with Autumn House Press

10 a.m.-1 p.m.
Join Autumn House’s Editor in Chief, Christine Stroud, in this deep-dive workshop that will generate a piece of writing that is eligible for Envisioning a Just Pittsburgh’s Call to Art. This year’s theme for the contest is home, inviting writers to explore what it means to belong, to feel grounded, and to imagine Pittsburgh as a place where everyone can live and thrive. In addition to generating a piece of work, Christine will guide participants through creating an artist statement and submitting their work electronically.
Envisioning a Just Pittsburgh Hillman Library Open House Event

Artists and community members from the University of Pittsburgh and beyond are invited to visit the University of Pittsburgh Library System’s Hillman Library to see rare collections from Archives & Special Collections and the Frick Fine Arts Library, learn about our current exhibits, and participate in creative activities at the library’s makerspaces (collaborations with the Center for Creativity and the University Center for Teaching and Learning). Join us to find support and inspiration as you explore this year’s Envisioning a Just Pittsburgh theme of “home”!
