Volunteer/Intern - Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh

Volunteer/Intern

Connect with art, science, or natural history—and your community

Expand your horizons, meet interesting people, and surround yourself with some of civilization’s greatest achievements. Whether you work with the public or behind the scenes, volunteering or interning with one of the four Carnegie Museums offers the opportunity to share your passion, gain work experience in a creative environment, support the community, explore your potential, learn something new, and make new friends.

Find your niche as a volunteer
At Carnegie Museums, we celebrate curiosity, discovery, and experiential engagement! Our diverse volunteer community welcomes people of all ages, abilities, educations levels, and employment backgrounds. Opportunities exist for everyone, including teens, students, and adults. Volunteers work on the museum floors with the public and behind-the-scenes with curators, educators, scientists, and other museum staff. Teens also assist with museum summer camps, special projects, and youth programming.

Intern with us to gain hands-on experience
Limited internships and other experiential learning opportunities are available at all four museums. Some intern positions may require at least one year of college or university to be completed and a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher. Internships are posted throughout the year as opportunities become available. To view the current list of openings, please visit our rolling list of available internships. Use our reference guide when submitting your application.

To apply for an internship, send a letter of intent, a resume, and a letter of reference to: volunteers@carnegiemuseums.org. Include the position title in your subject heading.

The Perks

All volunteers and interns enjoy free admission to all four museums; a subscription to CARNEGIE magazine; discounts on parking, classes, food services and gift shops; networking, recognition, enrichment and social opportunities; and education sessions and training.
