THE ULTIMATE VIRTUAL EXPERIENCE

CLIMB ABOARD FOR A RIDE TO REMEMBER!

CARNEGIE SCIENCE CENTER IS ONE OF THE FIRST SCIENCE CENTERS TO HAVE A MOTION SIMULATOR

Right now at the Science Center, you can check out one of the latest advances in entertainment technology—the ride simulator. the combination of audio, video and movement, you’ll get the sensation of traveling through space that’s like no other virtual experience. Step inside, and you’ll be transported away on one of three different, exciting excursions through space and, sometimes, time.

The “Time Gate to Egypt” program uses computer-generated graphics to help passengers “fly” to Egypt to see the pyramids. You’ll go back in time as well, dropping in during the construction process to see how ancient people combined brains and brawn to create one of the Seven Wonders of the World.“Virtual Time Machine,” go back to the days when the Earth was new. As you travel through time, you’ll meet up with dinosaurs and even land on the moon.

The third program is “Simulation Zone,” a thrilling trip that takes passengers on a wild roller coaster ride, a downhill Alpine skiing adventure, a water skiing excursion and a go-cart race.

The ride simulator offers a new type of sight, sound and motion experience that can’t be found anywhere else in the Pittsburgh area, and it is available to Science Center visitors in the first-floor atrium gallery through 1999.

The bullet-shaped simulator is 18 feet long and eight feet high—about the size of a van, and it can accommodate 15 people at a time. The simulator is fully accessible, but because of the movement it requires that passengers be able to hold onto safety bars. Children under the age of eight must be accompanied by an adult.

Don’t miss your chance to experience this new wave of technology. And look for it to return in the year 2000 as part of the Zap Surgery exhibit, where it will take passengers on a ride through the human body! n!yourself wanting more leaps and dips after you’ve sampled the motion simulator? Then be sure to see the Omnimax® film Thrill Ride while you’re at the Science Center. It’s an exciting ride on some of the best roller coasters in the country. Seatbelts are optional!
