Opening Ceremony for the New Library Center

The Library Center of Point Park College and Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh will open May 12 at 10 a.m. with presentations by Point Park College Board of Trustees Chairman Gerald E. McGinnis and President Katherine Henderson, and Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh Board of Trustees President Ellsworth Brown and Director Robert B. Croneberger. Following the presentations, volunteers and staff will lead tours of the facility. The Library will open for business at noon.

The Library Center will house the Helen-Jean Moore Library of Point Park College and Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh Downtown and Business Information Center. This gloriously renovated building, an economic development anchor in downtown Pittsburgh, has for public use 100 networked workstations, a state-of-the-art theater, the latest microfilm equipment, custom telephone system, and much more.

Henderson said, “The opening of the Library Center represents an exciting new era, not just for Point Park College and the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, but for downtown Pittsburgh as well. The Library Center will provide students and faculty with state-of-the-art technology that will add immeasurably to the educational opportunities available at Point Park while rendering excellent service to the general public. This pioneering private-public partnership will help enhance downtown Pittsburgh’s role as the focal point of regional activity.”
