BIKES: Science on Two Wheels
Thursday, June 13
7-9 p.m.
Carnegie Science Center

Take a sneak-peek at BIKES: Science on Two Wheels, the new exhibition that explores the history and science behind bicycles of all shapes, sizes, and origins. Build your bicycle knowledge by examining over 60 unique one, two, and three-wheeled models, engage in fun interactive features, and view gallery demos that explore the science of bicycles from frame to crank!

During the preview, refreshments will be available for purchase in addition to a cash bar.

Carnegie Museums of Art and Natural History

Travel into the Arabian world of haunting monoliths and golden relics. Members get the first look at Roads of Arabia before it opens to the public!

Before the preview, Members are invited to attend an exclusive lecture with Dr. Sandra Olsen, Director for the Center of World Cultures at Carnegie Museum of Natural History. As an anthropology expert, Dr. Olsen will guide you through Saudi Arabian history and recount the experiences of early European explorers to the region.

CARNEGIE MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY

Saturday, June 8 - Hillman Hall of Minerals and Gems, 2-3 p.m.
Discover hidden stories behind the specimens that describe how minerals shape the face of the Earth, as well as influence culture and history. From the stunning and unique specimens in the Masterpiece Gallery to local minerals that have fueled the growth of Pennsylvania’s industries and helped Pittsburgh become “The Steel City,” explore Hillman Hall of Minerals and Gems.
Saturday, July 13 - Historical Highlights, 2-3 p.m.
From the dramatic sarcophagus that began the Carnegie collection to our currently evolving Experimental Gallery – this tour will explore this history of the museum from past to present. Explore unique minerals from around the world, discover a rhino collected by Theodore Roosevelt, get the story behind the famous “Arab Courier Attached by Lion” diorama, and the dinosaur bone that started it all.
Saturday, August 10 - Natural Wonders, 2-3 p.m.
Do you have an eye for color, shape and other patterns? Compare the intricacies of the iridescence of a butterfly wing to subtle tones of camouflage that mask a moth in its surroundings. Explore fractals and tessellations in our one-of-a-kind mineral collections. Find out what your fingernails have in common with turtle shells and ostrich feathers, and explore other mysteries of science and nature throughout the museum.

Saturday, June 29 - Caldwell Linker: All through the Night and Nick Bubash: The Patron Saint of White Guys That Went Tribal and Other Works, 2-3 p.m.
Local artists Caldwell Linker and Nick Bubash will present their solo exhibitions to members.
Saturday, July 27 - Genesis Breyer P-Orridge: S/HE IS HE/RE, 2-3 p.m.
Milton Fine Curator of Art Nick Chambers will lead this tour.
Saturday, August 17 - Family Tour: Happy Birthday, Andy Warhol!
Two tour times: 1-2 p.m. and 2:30-3:30 p.m.
Donald Warhola, nephew of Andy Warhol, will lead these family-friendly tours in celebration of Warhol's birthday on August 6. Complimentary cupcakes will be served!
